Beneficiary Stories
We are honored to have been able to impact the lives of over 20 families affected by cancer through the generosity of our sponsors and participants.
Here are a few of their stories…
STACY CORLUCCIO
I cannot tell you enough how much the money has helped us. Since starting my cancer journey with a diagnosis in 2023, I have undergone three surgeries, including a whipple after two regiments of chemo therapy. I had 24 chemo treatments with some response to the metastasis in my lungs and stability, but after a three-month break, the lung lesions grew.
I am now in a clinical trial with targeted chemo which attacks a specific protein on my cancer. It has reduced my cancer markers by 67% and lesions have shrunk – some by more than 40%. This was after only 4 treatments. I am still in the trials and I am so blessed to still be here to tell you this.
Your memorial golf tournament has helped with co-pays, a trip to see my elderly father which was much needed for both of us as we do not live close to each other, and other medical expenses such as pharmaceuticals.
I have hair now! I’ve also been able to take time off from work to focus on photography (a hobby I love) and garden a bit (truly cathartic). The cooking after the gardening is the best.
So many foundations focus on other cancers, and pancreatic is such a hard cancer to treat. Your foundation is truly a gift from God. Thank you for easing my burden and improving my quality of life. Thank you for helping me to get healthy. I am forever grateful to everyone who contributed. I plan to create a blog to help others with this cancer, because your gifts have inspired me.
JENNIFER KEARNS
“Jennifer, this is the real deal,” my doctor said, as he could see I went into coordination mode, thinking this was just going to be another surgery to get through. He could tell I was not grasping the gravity of what he was telling me. Then he added, “I’m sorry,” and that’s when it hit.
When I chose to leave the security of a corporate job to become self-employed, the one worry that lingered in the back of my mind was, “What if something happens to me and I can’t work?” My husband had retired from law enforcement, we had a 10-year-old daughter, and suddenly, I was faced with the biggest challenge of my life.
I have always loved my job in workers comp. My motto is “Everybody can do something,” and I encourage my injured workers to overcome a disabled mindset. Now, I had to live by my own words…
My doctor was right - this was not just surgery. Over two years, I endured chemotherapy, radiation, five surgeries, second-degree burns, days in ICU and weeks of recovery. Being self-employed meant working through it all as much as I could, so I would put on my Wonder Woman underwear and fight like a girl!
Dealing with this prolonged treatment causes emotional, physical, and financial strains, so when my friend Anastasia Settle came to me and said “I saw what you went through, so I nominated you for the Miguel Aguila Memorial Golf Tournament, and they chose you,” I was overwhelmed with gratitude. As a lifelong caregiver, it’s a very humbling experience to be on the receiving end of such kindness, and I can’t thank you enough. Support like this helps you pick yourself up again. In honor of Miguel, I will continue the fight and pay it forward.
LAURA TRUBY
Travis was diagnosed in May of 2021. During his extreme treatment, surgeries and battle, he was unable to work. Receiving funds from this tournament helped out tremendously and I could focus just solely on Travis’s care during the last couple weeks of his life. Travis and I were beyond grateful, honored, and blessed to have been nominated and chosen. Thank you to all of the sponsors, participants, and especially Sara Aguila, for being one of the most amazing and caring people to have come into our lives.
RYAN DICUS
Ryan was diagnosed in early 2021 and started treatments in May. His treatment was so harsh, he was unable to work as a nurse for almost a full year. Being the beneficiary of the tournament provided us with the means to give our three children a great Christmas where we didn’t have to think about cancer and we could just celebrate being together.
ANDREW SANCTIS
Thank you to all the participants and the sponsors who generously supported and continue to support such a great cause. For me, the funds from the tournament came at a time when I was learning how to navigate the chaos of life as a widower with four young kids, coupled with adjusting to living off a single income. It was the perfect surprise at the perfect time.
STEWART SKIPPER
Receiving proceeds from this tournament helped immensely, so I could focus on things other than finances in an already rough situation. I was so touched to be chosen and felt honored that the industry cared about my family as we went through such a difficult situation! It also made me happy to carry on the memory of Miguel when we received proceeds for my late wife.
CARISSA RILEY
I have no words; I am just so full of gratitude. My life has changed so much in such a short amount of time, and you have no idea how much this gift will help my family and me. Thank you for standing by me during this time. No one has ever been this kind to me – it has brought me to tears. I feel so undeserving but extremely blessed.
ALL KIDS WONDERLAND AT
JOHNS HOPKINS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
In 2023, the Johns Hopkins Childrens’ Hospital served 192 patient families and filled 250 grocery bags with non-perishable goods and given to families. Each family was able to shop in the hospital’s All Kids Wonderland shop and received about 15-20 toys, books, games, and stuffed animals to give to their little ones for the holidays that were spent in the hospital.

Our Mission
The mission of the Miguel Aguila Memorial Golf Tournament is to honor Miguel Aguila’s life by supporting fellow cancer patients and their families in time of greatest need.
